Arts and Culture
The sheer vitality and vibrancy of arts and culture within Westport makes it very special and it’s so easy for the visitor to get involved. Going out for the night? Traditional music abounds in local pubs, especially Matt Molloy’s (of The Chieftains) on Bridge Street.
Contemporary art is alive and well, with classes in painting and stained glass-making regularly available. Take a trip to an art gallery such as the Custom House Studio at The Quay, the Andrew Stone Gallery on Bridge Street or the Clew Bay Hotel Gallery, all open year round. Craft shops often have work by local artists on display too.
Visiting during Westport Arts Festival gives an exciting insight into this lively community. This feast of theatre, dance, recital, music and more takes place each September. Other festivals include the extremely popular Westport Wellness Week held each February to revitalise body, mind and soul. The festival is a celebration of physical and spiritual fitness and wellbeing with an emphasis on positive living.
The Westport Music Festival takes place in August and features national and international music acts throughout the town. This is a fantastic event for all the family.
