--- June 2007 will see the commencement of direct flights from Ireland West Airport Knock to New York (JKF) and Logan Airport, Boston ---
NEW TRANSATLANTIC FLIGHTS FROM IRELAND WEST AIRPORT KNOCK ANNOUNCED
"
This is wonderful news", says Mr. Rooney, "
As this will assist us to make progress on one of our main aims this year, the improvement of access
to the West of Ireland. I have no doubt that the new route will be a tremendous success and will open
areas in the West of Ireland on a direct flight basis for holiday makers and business people alike."
"Hopefully, it will accelerate the on-going negotiations on the Open Skies Agreement between the United States and Ireland.
Now that we have a transatlantic service directly into the West of Ireland from New York and Boston, we must set out
to improve tourism products in these areas."
The Directors of the West of Ireland Tourism Development Board will be accelerating their effort in improving tourism
products such as walking, fishing, cycling, mountaineering and golf holidays. With transport directly into Knock,
it opens up an enormous vista for tourists. The road system in and around Ireland West Airport Knock has been
improved over the years. Landing in the centre of Galway, Mayo and Roscommon will allow easy access to all tourist
facilities within these counties.
"Every support must be given to Knock Airport in this outstanding achievement. Fáilte Ireland West will not be
found wanting in lending its support to ensure that this venture will go from success to success with a long term
future in mind of providing daily flights to and from Boston and New York," said Mr Rooney
"The Directors of Knock Airport are to be congratulated on their achievement and, hopefully, other carriers will
be influenced by the dynamic initiative of Fly Globe Span."
