‘Can do’ attitude of Destination Westport sees launch off to a flying start!
Destination Westport, officially launched by Kathryn Thomas (of RTE’s ‘No Frontiers’ and more recently, ‘Charity You’re A Star) on Friday 1st September at 7pm from the lofty heights of a hot air balloon kick-started a marketing campaign which is all about bringing more visitors to Westport and showcasing all the activities Westport has to offer – making it a premier destination in Ireland. Launched in the magnificent surroundings of Westport House, Destination Westport were delighted that so many dignitaries and Westport friends turned out to support the launch of their innovative and exciting marketing campaign.
Westport is a haven for visitors interested in good food, excellent spa facilities, golf, health & wellness…in fact, if a visitor is looking for something ‘different and exciting’ they are sure to find it in Westport! Pat Aylward, who spoke during the launch on behalf of Destination Westport, said that what he personally loved about Westport is its ‘can-do mentality’. He felt that this along with ‘quality accommodation in combination with other major attractions such as Westport House, the Championship golf course and of course, the fact that Westport is a beautiful heritage town’ would help Westport capitalise on becoming a premier destination in Ireland. Pat Aylward also spoke of the importance of Destination Westport’s website www.destinationwestport.com as providing a one-stop shop for visitors to Westport.
Destination Westport consists of ten quality accommodation providers and an activity provider (Carlton Atlantic Coast Hotel, The Castlecourt Hotel, Clew Bay Hotel, Hotel Westport, Knockranny House Hotel, Westport Plaza Hotel, Westport Woods Hotel, The Wyatt Hotel, Atlantic Coast Holiday Homes, The Harbour Mill & the Lady Slievemore Passenger Boat) who have joined forces in order to promote Westport to both the UK and domestic Irish markets. Having secured funding of €100,000 from Fáilte Ireland and a further €100,000 from the accommodation providers involved locally, Destination Westport have devised an innovative and exciting marketing campaign which they are optimistic will firstly encourage other local businesses in Westport to invest in Destination Westport and secondly, will increase numbers (& ultimately lengthen the season) within Westport.
