The team of Destination Westport are delighted to welcome you to our showcase of Westport!

Destination Westport is an alliance of hoteliers and accommodation providers who came together earlier this year to set up a body designed to assist in the marketing and promotion of Ireland’s Tidiest Town, in order to maintain its position as a premier holiday destination for both the domestic and UK markets.

The hoteliers themselves contributed to a central fund, raising a total of €70,000.00 to which Fáilte Ireland were delighted to add a further €100,000.00 to aid in the endeavours of the group in 2006. Local businesses in Westport have invested a further €30,000.00 into the project.

An attractive, comprehensive and strategically designed website – www.destinationwestport.com - was launched in Westport House in September of this year by Kathryn Thomas of No Frontiers, and has experienced rising numbers of traffic in the intervening months. It has formed an integral part of the campaign which has focused on regions of the UK with direct flights to Ireland West Airport Knock such as Birmingham and Manchester.

Pat Aylward, Public Relations Officer for the group says “Destination Westport has been formed to increase the profile of Westport in the domestic & UK tourism markets. To date, all the major accommodation providers in the town have come on board, and a very extensive and active marketing campaign has been initiated with much assistance being provided by Fáilte Ireland. The website www.destinationwestport.com has become established, and is producing measurable bookings for the town as a whole. The committee look forward to an interesting 2007, where once again Westport will be shown to be one of the premier tourist destinations in Ireland”.

Destination Westport are the force behind the promotion of events in Westport over the Christmas s eason and into the New Year, including a week-long event from February 26th to March 1st 2007 – Westport Wellness Week. This fantastic event will welcome guests to the town to participate in classes including yoga, homeopathy, baby massage and Pilates, and specialists from all over the country will give advice and guidance on achieving a work-life balance, relaxation and stress- management.
