Westport on Foot
Westport is a charming, picturesque town located in one of the most spectacular scenic areas in Ireland on the shores of Clew Bay at the foot of Croagh Patrick.  The area is rich in landscape, archaeological and historical heritage, in short; ideal for those who wish to explore on foot.  From gentle strolls to more challenging mountain climbs, Westport has some magnificent walking trails.

There are five fun assigned walks for the Westport area.  From the every day resident to the adventurous tourist, one can take a walk around the historic town and take in the sights of the elegant tree-lined Mall with its stately Georgian buildings along the Carrowbeg River. Cross over the bridge and veer up Bridge Street and you’ll come across a collection of shops and pubs with a friendly environment.

Westport is uniquely set-up in a way that makes walking a pleasure.  Besides walking within the town itself, one can walk the more challenging Croagh Patrick Mountain, which offers the reward of a truly stunning view over Clew Bay and the numerous islands that lie therein.

Guaranteed to fill the lungs with sea air from the Atlantic coast, the nearby Bertra Beach has a long strand where walking is a true pleasure.  Newport and Old Head Wood also offer excellent walks and the opportunity to see native wildlife, such as badgers, otters, pine martins and stoats.
