Westport House
Westport House & Country Park is one of those rare attractions that appeals to everyone with its extraordinary mixture of history, culture and fun for all the family.
It is situated in a magnificent parkland setting, with a lake, terraces and spectacular gardens overlooking Clew Bay. It is a major attraction for day visitors interested in Ireland's history, architecture and works of art, and is one of Ireland's most popular days out for the entire family. Over 3,000,000 visitors have now been welcomed since it first opened to the public.
Designed by the famous architects, Richard Cassels and James Wyatt, Westport House is a fine example of an early 18th century Georgian mansion. It was built and is still privately owned by the Browne family, who are direct descendants of the 16th century Pirate Queen, Grace O’Malley. It features several architecturally stunning rooms complete with original contents and artworks by, among others, James Arthur O’Connor, Chalon, Barrett, Gibson and Carver.
The house’s early 20th century gardens have been spectacularly restored and redeveloped to include one of the largest sets of old farmyard buildings in Ireland, The Loft Bar, The Shop at the Farmyard (home and garden), Jungle World (indoor soft play area for children), and a variety of other attractions for children and adults.
