Catch the Rolling Sun
August 24 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Every year, on two dates only, the setting sun appears to roll down Croagh Patrick’s northern shoulder when viewed from a very specific and very ancient vantage point: Westport’s neolithic Boheh Stone. On Friday, August 24, witness this spectacular event with The Croagh Patrick Heritage Trail and learn all about this ancient carved rock, which dates to 3,800 BC.
Meet at 7.30 pm at Brackloon/Drummin Community Centre (8km from Westport, on the N59 Leenane Road, beside Liscarney Post Office). The evening will include an undemanding 2km walk to the Boheh Stone, and archaeologist Leo Morahan will talk about the significance of this incredible and unique site.
A cover charge of €5 applies, and light refreshments will be served before the event.
