July 30, 2018 - May 1, 2019
‘Travellers’ Journey’ is a major new temporary exhibition running at the National Museum of Ireland (NMI) – Country Life, Turlough Park. It explores Traveller life and traditions in the west of Ireland through objects, images and films, and its fascinating themes include craft and skills, home and nomadism, faith, belief and language.
The museum also carries permanent collections that reveal the lives of Irish rural dwellers from 1850 to 1950, covering everything from agriculture, fishing and hunting to clothing and textiles, furniture and fittings, as well as trades and crafts, transport, calendar customs, leisure and religion – well worth a visit.
The National Museum of Ireland (NMI) – Country Life is a 25-minute drive from Westport, northeast of Castlebar.
The ‘Travellers’ Journey’ exhibition runs until May 2019, and admission is free.
