Westport crowned Ireland’s Best Town

Westport’s winning them all as Retail Excellence Ireland names Westport as ‘Ireland’s Best Town‘.

This is the fourth time in a short few months that Westport has won a national award. In June, Westport was crowned the Best Place to Live in Ireland by The Irish Times; in July it was named Ireland’s Best Kept Large Town 2012; and in September it was named the Tidiest Large Town in Ireland.

Retail Excellence Ireland carried out interviews with 16,000 residents and business owners in 100 locations around the country in a study it hopes will “reinvigorate towns and cities”. Westport topped the list of towns which were graded on several criteria including the range of restaurants, bars and shops on offer, family friendliness, the availability and price for parking and crime rate.

Westport came out on top overall with a total score of 85.6 per cent, with Killarney a close second at 84.6 per cent. Swords in Dublin was in third place, followed by Ashbourne in Meath and Dungarvan in Waterford.

We can only be proud to have such wonderful facilities and people in Westport and hope that Westport will stay on top.
