The 42km Great Western Greenway, is a beautiful off-road walking and cycling trail in Ireland, following the path of the old Westport to Achill railway line which closed in 1937

The Clew Bay Bike Trail is a new bike and ferry route looping magical Clew Bay, curving around the coastline, incorporating both Clare Island and Achill Island.

Newport is a third of the way along the Great Western Greenway from Westport to Achill. Its beautiful viaduct over the Black Oak river and majestic church beguile the eye.
