What to Do in Westport

Westport has a wide variety of parkland and links courses to suit every level, from professionals and keen enthusiasts to novices. Westport Golf Club, one of Ireland’s finest Championship Golf Courses, is just 5 minutes from the town centre.

There are three loop walks that begin at the Derradda community centre, about 3.5km West of Newport, just off the Newport/Mulranny road (N59).

Tawnyard Forest Trail is a 7Km round-trip in the Sheeffry Hills in the Tawnyard Wood, a coniferous forest managed by Coillte. This walk is part of the Western Way, a linear 150Km walking route from Leanne to Ballycastle in North Mayo.

Brackloon Wood, just outside Westport, is the largest area of native oak woodland in the region. Home to rare native plant species, it offers a glimpse into the history of the native Irish landscape.

Mulranny has three loop walks. All three have sunstantial overlap and vary in distance. The Causeway walk is 6km, The Cushlecka Walk is 9km and the third and newest loop walk has an option of 4/6km and begins and ends at Mulranny beach.

Overlooking Clew Bay at the bottom of Croagh Patrick, Murrisk village has scenic views in all directions and a rich history.

Ballintubber has several of the most important historic sites in central Mayo, including Ballintubber Abbey and St. Patrick's well.

Mayo's hundreds of pristine beaches, from small sheltered coves to vast expansive strands, are some of the best in the country, if not the world.

The Brackloon Wood trailhead is about 6km south of Westport on the Leanne road. The walk is 4km long over a gentle grade.
